I've been looking for a new direction for my working life. I was complaining about it on Google Plus (my favorite social media site!) and had mentioned that one of the things I've wanted to do for years is design my own teddy bears (and other critters). After saying it, it got me to thinking about how important it had been to me in the past and how much it was still a goal, even if I hadn't really acted on it for the last 12 years or so.
Maybe it is time to go back to the goal. It is unlikely it would be something that would replace having a day job, but it could supplement my income and make things a little easier financially. Even if it didn't, at least I'd have accomplished a goal and given my time not working some proof of not being a complete time waste.
So, I got out a small pad of paper and a pencil. I sketched out a regular ordinary bear that had a big ole pot belly. Then I did an owl, which got thrown away. And I drew one with a big head and small body.
What I've discovered is that I need bigger paper, sharpened pencils, erasers, and a ruler. I also need some felt so that when I finish a design that I like, I'll be able to cut it out and make it. A friend gave me money for Christmas for a local craft store. I'm going to be going there before I pick up the kid from work.
I will do this.
