My name is Nancy and I'm a bear-aholic. I just love teddy bears of all shapes and sizes. I have stuffed ones, paper ones, wood ones, and glass ones. Some of them are collector's items but most of them are just bears I saw and couldn't help but buy. This site, which is full of bearmaking tips and articles, links and patterns, gives me a chance to give something back to the bear community.
My obsession with bears didn't start until I was in my late teens. My favorite bear is one that my Mom got me for Christmas when I was 16. I named him Scotty because he had a Scottish hat on his head and my boyfriend at the time was Scott. That's him in the picture.
Scotty has gone everywhere with me, including my various nanny jobs, moving half way across the country to live with my great aunt in Illinois, to all the different places I lived in New Jersey and my new life there as a wife then mother and finally to our home here in Keene, New Hampshire. Scotty has been with me through all the good and bad and always had a shoulder for me to cry on and a big comfy hug when I needed it.
Last year I gave Scotty to my daughter. We were both going through a rough patch following the end of a relationship. We were living at her grandmother's house while I did house hunting up in NH and was back and forth a lot. She was having a particularly bad night and I decided that she needed Scotty's healing and love a bit more than I did. So now Scotty keeps watch over her and she feels safe and loved all night long.
The background on this page was created from the picture of Scotty. You can see his face in the pattern if you look closely. Please do not take the image and use it on your web site without asking permission first. Thanks!
